I was honoured to be elected Chairman of the Friends of Chartres at the Association’s AGM in March 2017. As a member of the post-war generation, and a lifelong Francophile, twinning is close to my heart. The friendships that twinning has created between ourselves and our counterparts in Europe have contributed to the longest period of peace our continent has ever known. It is my firm belief that these friendships will become even more important in the post-Brexit days.
The strength of a group such as ours lies in its members, and we are working to involve more families and young people in our activities. Our 60th anniversary in 2019 will provide a great opportunity to raise our profile in the city and to celebrate what has been achieved.
